Hello Nerds!
Sometimes
it’s hard to be a nerd; sometimes you’re shunned by society, branded as an
outcast, a non- intellectual, and the list goes on; I’ve never liked being an
outcast, but have faced it on many occasions.
The
most common place: the lunch room at my high school…….*Breaks out laughing*
just kidding I don’t eat that crappy food!!!!! More seriously though, the
hardest place is generally in the classroom, where the nonintellectuals, and
even sometimes football players and athletes will try to act like your friend,
and act like they’re interested in you and your nerd life. Like Holden Caulfield
said (quite often, too) “they’re a bunch of Phonies”, which they are.
They don’t
understand that what they do is not only a waste of their effort, but of ours
as well and mildly insulting at times. When you start a conversation with a
nerd, don’t think of it as starting a conversation with a nerd, thing about
just talking to the person, not their obsession. I mean, no-one ever went up to
Bruce Wayne and asked him about his dead parents, but I can assure you both
Bruce and the nerd would take it the same way: very insulting and mildly agitating…
the only difference being that Bruce would probably send you through a wall,
where as I would send you through the door with my gripping of your shirt and
escorting you out of my sight.
Nothing
can be more upsetting to me when Phonies try to be my friend, when all they
want is your attention, when they do this I try to find a phrase to shut them
down without angering them, just stopping them right in their tracks.
So the
next time you try to talk to someone’s passion or obsession, just don’t, ok? And
if you’re the one being bullied by them, just don’t even acknowledge their existence
and see how better your life is.
Resistance is Futile
